- Look at the scene without the camera – you will see more. Look for various points and try to previsualize the shot.
- Fantasize about the shot – what could I put into (or take out of) the shot to make it the best shot ? More often than not (especially in the beginning) it is recommended to simplify the shot as much as possible, to make your subject clear
- Attempt something unusual – look for different ways to make the photo stand out above the rest.
Chase Jarvis also mentions the ‘creative gap’ – a gap between what you want your pictures to look like and what they look like in real life. The gap is huge at beginning, but narrows significantly with education and most importantly: “Going out and taking pictures !”
