To illustrate the importance of having good foreground in landscape photography, check the photo of these longtail boats in Maya Bay to the left. The boats give a viewer interesting foreground, and lead the eye into the frame, all the way up to the majestic rocks in the background. Maya Bay might be “The Beach”, but it would not be nearly as impressive without the boats to give it a sense of scale. So, in that tone, our tip of the week is:
Check your foreground !
Find an object in the foreground that will add depth to your landscape photos, and use it to your advantage. It can be anything: e.g. rock, branch, plant, boat, person. Our recommendation would be to pick something that will reinforce the overall theme of your landscape shot. Happy shooting.
